Sustainability Impact

“The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn.” Emerson

We believe business can be a force for good in the world, and we’re on a mission to make a positive impact, not only for our taste buds, but also for the health and wellbeing of ourselves and the planet.

Our impact partner:

  • It all begins with great ingredients! We source the highest quality ingredients for amazing flavour and nutritional benefits, with the majority coming from certified organic growers practising sustainable agricultural methods.

We also have the privilege of working directly with some of the growers here in Australia, including our exquisite hazelnuts, carob and pink lake salt.

Organic agriculture is not just focused on the short term, but considers the medium and long-term impact and works in such a way to establish ecological balance, reducing the use of agrochemicals and fostering healthier soil, waterways, air and food! Learn more about our ingredients

  • We have committed to planting over 10 trees a day, or 4,000 trees a year, empowering farmers and regenerating the soil with Trees for the Future.

95% of the food we eat comes from the uppermost layer of the soil. It takes 1,000 years to generate 3cm of topsoil, and if current rates of degradation continue all of the world's top soil could be gone within 60 years.

The causes of soil degradation include chemical-heavy farming techniques and deforestation, which is why we’re passionate about both organic sustainable agriculture, and planting trees!

We lose trees at a rate of 50 soccer fields per minute with most of this occurring in the developing tropics of Africa, Latin America, and South and Southeast Asia.

Trees for the Future have created an innovative “Forest Garden” program, empowering farmers across five countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to sustainably grow their own food, generate new sources of income, employ organic farming methods and regenerate the land through planting trees.

  • In our factory on the Surfcoast of Victoria, we aim for minimal waste and sustainable solutions.

Food off cuts are transformed into samples for our wholesale customers, food scraps are composted, all soft plastic is recycled, and we have a special machine that transforms used cardboard boxes (we get a lot of them!) into a honeycomb packaging material that we use as cushioning in all wholesale orders that leave the factory!

  • We love sustainable packaging! All our premium dark hot chocolate is packed in 100% home-compostable bags (you just need to remove any labels prior to composting), our treat gift boxes are 100% recyclable, the packaging tape we use on all our boxes is called “Landfill-Biodegradable” and biodegrades 90% faster than conventional plastic.

Even our dishwashing gloves biodegrade 90% faster than plastic!

We’re constantly looking for ways to keep improving and transforming our packaging into the most sustainable solution possible.

  • In our factory we choose healthy cleaning products that are extremely effective, that don’t include harsh chemicals and that are good for the planet.

When we clean, it smells like lemon myrtle essential oil!

From our dishwashing detergent, to our sanitiser, spray and wipe, floor cleaner and hand soap. It all matters!

10 trees planted everyday

We have have committed to planting over 10 trees a day, or 4,000 trees a year, with Trees for the Future, who have created a unique 4-year training program called the Forest Garden Approach, where farmers plant thousands of trees that protect and bring nutrients back to the soil.

This enables farmers to grow a variety of fruits and vegetables, sustainably increasing access to food and generating income, even in the first year, while fostering the health of the environment.

This work is being done with thousands of farming families across five countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

We started planting trees at the beginning of 2022, and have planted 8,000 trees to date.
